Interesting name for a coffee.
Cockpunch Coffee hints of lime, orange blossom honey, and vanilla. Affiliation with Tim Ferris.

I ordered a cable and adapter in hopes I can get my old Atari 7800 up and running. It’s been in the attic for nearly 30 years. Still powers on, but I have no way to connect it to a modern television.

I sent out the first issue of a new newsletter I’m experimenting with. The idea is to share some of my favorite articles, apps, and other interesting links that I discover during the week. I’d appreciate any feedback! Continue reading →

I’m done!
No more messing with my websites (for a while). I now have a profile page, my personal blog, and two new newsletters, Eric’s Weekly Cache and The Power Architect.
The newsletters will be where I share my posts plus the cool links I discover.
Now, I need to focus on content!

I’m about to experiment with KTool, which will send my RSS, and newsletters to my Kindle for reading later. I just purchased a Kindle Scribe, so the timing is perfect.
I have a couple of custom “magazines” setup with several blog feeds and forwarded newsleters. I should get a “Daily Read” for each.

Cars, 2006 - ★★★★★
🍿 We watched this hundreds of times when my kids were little. It still holds up as one of my favorite movies. Continue reading →

This is why I shouldn’t have time off. I tend to rebuild my websites!
My main site is now on blot.im. I did this so I could easily create and update posts from Obsidian.
My Micro.blog site is now primarily my “social media” posts.
And a new weekly digest newsletter on Buttondown. Subscribe here!

Finished reading: Smart Brevity by Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen, and Roy Schwartz 📚
It is a book about transforming your writing to convey your meaning in as few words as possible.
It’s a pretty good book you can crank through in less than 2 hours.

A great directory of App Defaults created by Robb Knight. Inspired by the Hemispheric Views Episode 097 - Duel of the Defaults!, which I truly enjoyed listening to. A list of blog posts that talk about their own App Defaults. Each blog has an RSS feed! Download the full OPML file at the bottom!

Spent time this morning adding my favorite RSS feeds into Feedbin. A clean slate. I also have Micro.blog timeline and Discover, newsletters, and favorite YouTube channels.
I probably cut back the total number of feeds by 60%, at least.
I like Feedbin’s simplicity and ability to send to Kindle.

I had a long afternoon troubleshooting a production issue. I fixed the primary issue immediately but couldn’t tell because my tests failed. Hours later I realize my instance of the app on Windows was passing the date in an incorrect format.

I was frustrated with Window management on my Windows PC. FancyZones was not flexible, and the out-of-box is not good on wide screens.
I found Divvy, which lets me use keyboard shortcuts or select from a grid for exact positioning.
I decided to use it on my Mac, also. It’s nice having consistency!

I signed up for a Kagi trial yesterday. Kagi is a paid search engine that has an ad-free experience. I have it all set up on my machines and iPhone, and now I need to see how well it works.
Google is such a mess these days. You have to scroll to get past the ads and see actual results!

Bear with me while I mess with my sites and domains this weekend. I’m not sure what I’m going for yet, but I’m just in one of those moods. :)

Finished reading: Clear Thinking by Shane Parrish 📚
I think thought this was a great book. Easy to read, as all books from Shane Parrish are. It is chalked full of insights.
This book is to Decision Making as Atomic Habits is to Habits. Perhaps the definitive guide for beginners.

Feed your Creativity: How to Escape the Algorithm with Active Content Consumption
With an endless influx of information competing for our attention, our creative wells often run dry. To revive your imagination, you need to be more intentional about balancing your creative input with your creative output.
I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with my RSS consumption lately. I have been using Readwise and Reader, which are great; if anything, they make things worse. Everything is easy to highlight and take notes, the amount of content increases, which turns into a snake eating its own tail.

I tidied up my blog categories this morning. I might still adjust a few things. Generally, I'm aiming for higher-level categories that I can use as sub-navigation on my blog. I don't see a need for specific categories since the search function works great for finding specific things.
